Let's Talk About Coconut Oil

Image
Let's talk about coconut oil. Wow, I am sure that this is a favourite for many. Virgin unrefined coconut oil is definitely a favourite of mine. I use it everyday and for different things . For starters, I have 4C hair therefore I use it regularly and my hair loves it. After applying it my hair feels soft and  is more manageable. However, I often use it along with a moisturiser. Usually I use it with water. I put the water in a spritz bottle and then just spray a bit on the hair, without necessarily soaking it. But you can also use a hair moisturiser  of your choice. Coconut oil helps to seal in moisture, so if hair is not properly moisturised dryness will be sealed in instead, and the hair will become brittle and break. I also use coconut oil on my skin. I recently found out that coconut oil can clear skin blemishes. I really did not know that, so I decided to put it to the test. My underarms had a bit of discolouration. I just did not know how to make it go away. So I st...

Indoor Winter Activities

Image
Hey there:) I hope that you are enjoying your weekend. I'm certainly enjoying mine, however it's really cold in Harare at the moment, and I just wanna be home. And I am sure a lot of you would also rather be indoors where it's warmer. However, sometimes it's difficult to come up with stuff to at home on a weekend, especially if you are used to going out on weekends. But, spending time indoors in the comfort of your home (or a friend's) can also be fun. For instance you can watch a movie that you have been dying to watch for a long time or catch up on your favourite TV show. If watching TV is really not your thing you can try reading. Reading can be fun especially when you are relaxed and in the comfort of your home. I am currently reading Americanah, by Chimamanda Ngozi  Adichie and am absolutely enjoying it. So you too could look for a book that you have heard a great review about and curl up with a mug of hot cocoa (yum). This is also a time to catch up on a h...

8 Ways To Boost Confidence

Image
Growing up I had a lot of insecurities, and ultimately lacked confidence in myself. I did not believe I was good enough for anything, and always tried to get people to accept me without necessarily understanding me or what I was really about. Instead of fitting in I became a misfit. I always felt like something was wrong and people were looking at me and judging me. It was a nightmare feeling that way about myself because it restricted me from fully enjoying life and pursuing my dreams and goals. When I wanted to do something, I always thought of what people would say and what kind of reactions I would get. It's normal to think of what people are going to say or how they are going to react to whatever you are doing. However, when you only focus on the negative reactions instead of the positive ones then it becomes a problem. That was me. I realized that not having confidence in myself was restricting me from realizing my full potential. When I say confidence I do not mean se...

How To Always Look Good

Image
Accessories can make or break an outfit Wow! This is a very exciting topic for me. And I also think that it's very broad, and in a way very controversial. What does it mean to look good? Is it something that is important or not? What does it take for one to look good? And why do you need to look good? Or for whom? I think these are some of the questions that you are asking as you are reading this. Well, I think you need to look good for yourself firstly, and yes for other people too. The reason why I say you need to look good for yourself firstly is because it's difficult to please people. The reason being that we all have different taste in fashion and preferences when it comes to hair, clothes, etc. Basically, one man's meat is another man's poison (sounds like a cliche, right? ). But I have noticed this to be very true. What I like is not going to be neccessarily liked by the next person. Not because it doesn't look good, but because it might not su...

Protective Hairstyles for Winter

Image
Kelly Rowland rocking box braids Zendaya with faux locs H ello! Feels good to be back here. It's very important to find a good protective hairstyle during winter. During this time hair needs to be protected from the harsh winter  conditions. Therefore it is important to settle for a hairstyle that completely covers the hair and keeps it warm. However, its also important to stay true to one's individual style, even during winter. Get a hairstyle that matches your style and personality. Something that makes you feel comfortable. Personally I normally go for box braids. I love them, they are versatile, really cool and hustle free. When I say hustle free I mean that when I am getting ready to go out I do not have to spend hours upon hours trying to style them. Styling box braids is really easy for me. But I have also been wanting to try the trendy faux locs. I have seen several people rocking them and l think they look amazing! I  also think they are also really ...

Step by Step Skin Care Regimen Using Garnier, Estèe Lauder, SHILLS & Ponds Flawless Radiance

Image
Hey there! I hope I find you well. My last posts have been about Skin Care, especially cleansing, toning and moisturizing. We all know that skin care is very important because looking good starts with beautiful skin. With beautiful skin you will feel more confident with or without makeup. My  bff Gamu Belle has shared her skin care regimen with us (yay!). I found it very informative, helpful and creative. I hope it will also be of great help to you. Here is what she shared, enjoy! 1st Step: Scrubbed with Garnier Skin Active-Pure Active 3 in 1 2nd Step: Exfoliated gently with Beauty Formula’s Australian Tea tree wash. This product is not drying, even for oily skin. 3rd Step:  Applied SHILLS Natural Science Black Mask, using fingers and making sure to leave out the little eyebrows I have. Waited 20 mins for it to dry and then peeled it off. Didn’t see blackheads on this but my face looked clean with all access oil sucked out. With this product my skin ...

Rose Water Toner: Yay or Nay?

Image
HELLO! My last post was about skin care, and I made reference to Rose water and how I use it as a toner after cleansing my face. As a toner I think it gets the job done, however, there are some things that I do not particularly like about using Rose water in general.   Before I started using it I read several reviews about how Rose water should be a beauty essential for everyone, about how it’s magic in a bottle etc. In a way it is magic in a bottle and a beauty essential mainly because it can be used on both the skin and hair. It definitely refreshes the skin, it also tightens pores, balances skin PH, and skin feels softer and smooth. In a nutshell, you do notice a difference, mostly good. However, I feel it can be a bit hash on the skin and I didn’t like the smell. I felt like it burnt my skin  and gave me a bit of a rash. My skin also felt a bit itchy when I first used it. I seriously thought that’s how it works, but when a rash appeared a few days later I w...

Dudu Osun Black Soap

Image
My Dudu Osun Black Soap Hey there! I hope that I find you all well. I have decided to write something on skincare, specifically dealing with blackheads, breakouts, scars, acne and clearing dark marks. I know there are so many ways of dealing with these skin problems; however, I am going to write about the Dudu Osun Black Soap. I know the name sounds scary and intimidating, but it is just a natural soap made from Pure honey, Shea butter, Osun (Camwood), Palm kernel oil, Cocoa pod ash, palm bunch ash, Aloe Vera, Lime juice, Water and Fragrance. I have been using it for a while now, and what I can say is it’s absolutely amazing. I would recommend it for anyone with problem skin and looking for something affordable and very effective. It is also readily available in most beauty shops and also online. As a matter of fact I have recommended it to a lot of my close friends and relatives, the results were phenomenal every time. I personally used to have dark marks and scars, ...

Finding the Right Foundation Shade

Image
Hi there, I hope I find you well. Thank you for stopping by and taking time to read. Well, let’s get straight into the business of the day which is picking the right shade of foundation. Finding the right shade is a struggle for a lot of people. I struggled with it myself for quite a while until I discovered a few ways of finding the right shade for my tone. I always picked a shade lighter or a shade darker, but never the right one. The lighter ones made me look ashy whilst the dark ones weighed down my face and took away the warmness of my skin tone. So here are a few tricks that you can use to help you find the right shade of foundation. 1.   Firstly, you need to know your skin undertone. Basically there is the warm undertone and the cool undertone. A warm undertone can be red, orange or yellow. Whilst a cool undertone can be blue or green . Most foundations are therefore made to suit the different skin undertones. Knowing one’s skin undertone will certainly make findin...

How To Make Makeup Last Longer

Image
My last few posts have basically been all about makeup application, actually basic makeup application. I did highlight that there is a lot to learn about makeup, and I will try to explain as much as possible as we go. Well, today I am going to talk about making makeup last longer. Making makeup last longer is basically about oil control. This is very important particularly for people with very oily skin. When you apply your makeup, you want it to stay in place, but however, that is not what always happens. Sometimes makeup will literally slide off the face or take another form that is different from the initial one. This may sound like a joke, but believe me it’s actually far from funny. So you might be asking, what is the best way of making it last longer on your face? Or how to make your makeup stay fresh without necessarily having to add more product? Well, there are several ways of making that happen, and I am going to be sharing them with you here. The first thing to do i...
